Is it important for a pastor to read?  I would argue it is a necessity for a pastor to read and to read widely.   Here are two quick reasons.

  1. I believe that reading in order to learn is an essential characteristic for those who desire to “Love God with all their minds.”
  2. I agree with Jim Shaddix.   While doing some research, I ran across this quote:  “The development of a working knowledge in various fields will not only sharpen your intellect but enable you to engage the church and the culture from an informed perspective.”[1]

Never forget the old maxim, “Leaders are readers.”
